Merry Xmas And Happy 2025

Date:

The year 2024 is coming to an end and 2025 is coming. As a result, I wish to take this opportunity to wish all of us a Merry Christmas and a happy 2025. This is a time for joy, togetherness, and reflection on the blessings we have received throughout the year. I would like to wish you the best moments as you gather with loved ones, share meals, and enjoy the beauty of your surroundings. I would also like to take a moment to appreciate the extraordinary natural environment we are fortunate to call home and take care of it.

The Okavango region is blessed with an abundance of wildlife and natural beauty. However, this precious environment is vulnerable, and it is our responsibility to protect it for future generations. As we celebrate the festive season, it is essential that we all commit to preserving the beauty of our land by avoiding littering and minimizing waste.

Littering can have a devastating impact on our environment, harming wildlife and polluting our homeland. During this season, as more people gather for celebrations, picnics, and festivities, the risk of waste accumulation increases. I urge everyone to take care in disposing of their waste properly in designated areas. We should use designated trash bins, recycle where possible, and reduce the use of plastic bags where possible. Let us also be mindful of the fragile ecosystems that surround us and ensure that we leave no trace of our celebrations or waste in nature.

Similarly, we should observe the 4Rs of waste management, these are: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Reclaim. The 4Rs are an important part of sustainable living, as they help to cut down on the amount of waste we must throw away. The 4 Rs can help us to find better ways to manage our litter. The 4Rs can be summed as follows: i) reduce where we cut down the amount of litter we produce. This means we should reduce all the activities that generate solid waste into the environment. We should reduce the solid waste in our community by changing our habits; ii) reuse where we can reuse materials we would normally throw away. For example, we can reuse plastic or glass bottles instead of new ones which use up more raw materials; iii) recycling where we can recycle the rubbish that cannot be reused. Recycle therefore means re-covering a previously used object and giving it a second life. The use of waste by processing and modifying it into another form reduces the amount of waste that may accumulate in the environment; and iv) recover/reclaim where we should convert waste into resources usable resources (such as heat, and fuel) from paper. Most of the materials thrown in the garbage can be used and be processed in ways other than being destroyed. Such a process is called recovering.

Finally, I would like to note that if we work together, we can continue to protect the Okavango’s pristine environment, ensuring that it remains a sanctuary for wildlife and a source of pride for all who live here. May the spirit of conservation guide us throughout the festive season and beyond. Wishing you all a joyful, peaceful, and environmentally conscious Christmas and a happy 2025.
