First Division North League new entrants, Parakarungu based Mbalakalungu Sporting Club has gotten off to a good start, as they currently occupy the second spot of the log with 13 points from the seven games played.
From the seven games, the team won three matches and registered four draws. Mbalakalungu now hopes to maintain their second spot when they welcome the log leaders, Tafic Sporting Club at Kasane Prisons Grounds this Saturday.
The club took the league by storm and surprised many after leading the log for a long period of the first round before Matjimenyenga Boys turned the tables towards the end of last year, leaving them 4 points behind.
Tafic on the other hand has not lost any match since the beginning of the league, collecting 17 points from seven matches and currently occupying the first spot of the table.
Mbalakalungu’s position is however threatened by Motlakase Power Dynamos, who are two points behind and they will this weekend welcome the struggling Serowe based, Green Lovers who are currently placed second bottom of the log with five points.
Should Mbalakalungu win against Tafic tomorrow, this will draw them closer to the top with a point below the log leaders.
Speaking to Times Sport, the team’s manager Tebogo Mokolwanyane attributed their consistency and winning streak to the preparations they make prior to their matches as well as investment directed to their players.
He noted that the club has a good player management initiative, adding that at the beginning of the season they signed few good players whom they were able to manage well hence their consistency in the league.
According to him, Mbalakalungu is also strong in terms of player positioning, adding that during the last window, they managed to sign six players among them two midfielders, two wingers and two strikers from different team that include Notwane, Gilport Lions, Maun Terrors and Etsha Morning Stars from the Gumare stream.
To solidify and strengthen the team, Mbalakalungu has also this week announced the appointment of Kgotlayame Disele as the new assistant coach.
“Disele brings a vast experience in the circle of football. Disele worked with the following teams as Head Coach; Kazungula Young Fighters, Chobe United, Ferry Wanderers, Satau Sporting Club and Vision Boys just to mention a few,” the club announced.
More to the good management and coordination of their squad, Mokolwanyane also appreciated that financial support from their sponsor, Anthony Ntalamo who he said has helped them deliver good results as they managed to honour all their away matches without any logistical challenges.
“Our sponsor helps us with everything a team needs to be competitive, be it transportation, accommodation and food. He even provides accommodation for our players, so we owe him a better position in the league,” the team manager appreciated.
Meanwhile as the first division league resumes tomorrow, Sankoyo Bush Bucks will welcome Miscellaneous at Maun Sports Complex and Calendar Stars will play Chadibe FC. Santa Green will be away to Mahalapye to tussle against BR Highlanders. Third bottom placed, Rolling Boys will take on Peacemakers and the clubs will be going into the Saturday match with 6 points apiece. All games start at 1530hrs.
