Maun was this past festive season, abuzz with entertainment leaving residents and visitors from across Botswana spoilt for choice in an otherwise challenging weather condition, where the rain was unabated.
While other events were affected by the rains, leading to low turn outs, revelers who braved the weather were treated to two major events that showcased some of the best entertainment the region has to offer.
The 2 edition of the Local ka Monate Music Fest and The Day Club Maun drew large crowds, with attendees filling the venues to capacity, making the celebrations unforgettable.
On December 28th, the Local Ka Monate Music Fest delivered a powerful lineup featuring some of Botswana’s biggest musical talents. Performers included Franco, Han C, Juu Matere, Chokoma, and Charma Girl, all of whom brought immense energy and passion to the stage. The audience, made up of fans from Maun and beyond, was visibly thrilled as their favorite artists lit up the night with electrifying performances.
One of the standout acts was Han C, who captivated the crowd with a spirited performance that combined powerful vocals and coordinated dance routines. With each song, Han C kept his choreography fresh and engaging, creating an immersive experience for the audience.
When he performed his hit song Ke Gopotse Gae, the crowd erupted in song, singing along to every word and creating an emotional and memorable moment. Speaking to The Weekender after his performance, Han C shared his gratitude and excitement: “The energy here was amazing. I was astounded to hear so many people singing along to my songs—it was an incredible feeling.”
Another unforgettable performance came from Juu Matere, who commanded the stage with his charisma and talent. His national hit had the audience dancing and singing along, keeping the night’s momentum alive. As the festival progressed, it became clear that the Local Ka Monate Music Fest had not only met but exceeded expectations, offering attendees a night filled with music, energy, and unforgettable memories.
A few days later, on January 1st, The Day Club Maun opened to welcome the New Year with an entirely different vibe but an equally enthusiastic crowd. Residents and visitors from across the country gathered at the venue, bringing camp chairs and settling into a space designed for both relaxation and celebration.
The event was marked by its unique branding and décor, which included a giant inflatable Jägermeister bottle, branded stalls, and an illuminated The Day Club sign that added a sophisticated touch to the venue. Attendees enthusiastically took photos, capturing moments to share on social media and spread the word about the event.
Despite unpredictable weather conditions, organizers ensured the venue was well-prepared, erecting a vibrant and protective structure around the DJ booth. The music lineup did not disappoint, with DJ PH delivering a high-energy hip-hop set that had the audience on their feet. His performance blended effortlessly into the event’s vibrant atmosphere, creating a dynamic mix of beats that resonated with attendees.
By 8 pm, The Day Club had become so popular that organizers were forced to close the gates after the venue exceeded capacity. This precaution ensured the safety and comfort of all attendees while maintaining the high-quality experience the event had promised.
Other planned events also had surges in attendees but were unfortunately affected by the weather conditions, leading to some eager attendees unable to attend.
When the festive season came to an end the spirit of Maun lingered, with some visitors delaying their departure back to their homes a bit longer wanting to dance until dawn.
