Maun will host the inaugural ‘Maun Polo Affair Easter Weekend’ sponsored by Dc Tours in the form of two events, a family fun fiesta and a horse race. Easter weekends have for many years been synonymous with the Mascom Derby, which following a fallout with sponsors Mascom and organisers, a court judgement barred the former from holding the event in Maun on the same dates.

The organiser have since roped in DC Tours for the Polo Affair. The family fun fiesta inclusive of a family fun day event and a music festival will be held on Friday the 7th at the Maun Sports Complex, followed by a horse race at Shashe and an after-party on Saturday 8th.

The fiesta will start at 10.00AM with a kids carnival ending at 5pm and will feature various activities that include water slides, face-painting, jumping castles, a dance competition, paintball shooting, egg racing, water games, karaoke and many more.

It will be followed by a music festival that will commence at 1800hrs till 2am featuring both local and international artists. The festival dubbed, ‘Maun Polo All White Picnic Affair’ will be headlined by popular South African DJ, Lungelihle Zwane aka Uncle Waffles. Revelers are expected to be fresh the following morning in order not to miss the horse race hence the music festival will end at around 2am.

DC Tour Director Lepsy Molemele told The Weekender that their mandate this year is to shake things up as they are willing to better the standard of the events.  “First of all we have changed the name of the event to Maun Polo Affair Easter Weekend in order to sell Maun as tourist destination,” he said.

Molemele said there will be a kiddies play area which has giant slides and jumping castles at the horse race event. He added that they have also increased the seating capacity at the event from 1200 people to 4000 people.

He indicated that for the first time in the history of the horse race event, there will be an after party still at the Shashe horse race track. Molemele noted that after the race, music performances will commence at around 0530PM till late as people usually have no plans of where to go after the race hence they have come up with a plan to entertain them in the evening till late.

He noted that both events are Polo themed where dressing in fashionable clothes is key. “Our Friday event is an all white event with the slogan #cleaningisfun,” he added.

Furthermore, attendees of the horse race will be given an extra parking lot at Luna Garden as a way of reducing traffic and it will be availed at P10 payable at the gate.

The After-party lineup features Dj Ngwazi, ATI, Nature BW, Kagiso Sento, Miss Geekays, Dj Gouveia, Dj Bunny, Dj Sly, Babahuu, Brando and Dj Colastaw.
