Maun Welcomes Miss Botswana In Style

The newly crowned Miss Botswana, Lesego Chombo received a warm welcome when she landed in her home soil this week. Many gathered to welcome the new Queen in style through song and dance as she arrived for the first time since shegotcrowned.

After landing at Maun International Airport, Chombo was taken around Maun in a motorcade befitting a queen, and to add style to it, motorbikes and game view vehicles were featured. It was spectacle to behold as residents lined the streets to welcome the newly crowned beauty queen.

Clad in a blue Leteisi, the 24-year queen was led into the Batawana main Kgotla, on mounted horses.

Botswana Council of Women’s Daisy Wright implored the Maun community to genuinely celebrate Chombo as she has made the district and country proud.

She also noted that the BCW aims to nurture talent among the youth, adding that Chombo is a product of that spirited initiative. Young people in Ngamiland, she said have performed extra ordinarily in the various fields to promoting the region by becoming champions in many Sports, arts and culture competitions. She highlighted the likes of Juby Peacock, Amantle Montsho, and Anthony Pesela and others.

Meanwhile Miss Botswana expressed her joy for having made Maun proud, after fulfilling her long standing dream of becoming a reigning Queen.

She said it has always been her dream to help the less privileged children, something her parents have instilled in her, that is to give to those in need.

“My wish is to help the needy children to dream big and help them have the courage to follow their hearts and believe that they can succeed in the path they wish to take,” she said.

Meanwhile her father, Othusitse Chombo could not hide his excitement as he shared that his daughter has always been a dream chaser. He said she is a big dreamer who follows her heart and has believe of success in her pursuits.

Chombo indicated that his daughter has won pageantry competitions since her preschool era. Then she became “Queen Esther’ when she was at high school. He said her academic performance was never left behind as  she always excelled.

Meanwhile the Executive Chairperson of Miss Botswana Benjamin Raletsatsi said that their mandate was to bring home the Miss World crown.

He described Chombo as a very smart woman who is a qualified lawyer, adding that he believes the country is well represented during her reign. He further encouraged Batawana to be very supportive for her to win the Miss World competition.

Raletsatsi further said that they have plans to host the Miss World pageant in Botswana adding that they are working very hard on getting the hosting rights.
