The second edition of Maun Vintage Vibes lit up The Power Station this past Saturday, blending nostalgia, live music, and timeless fashion into one unforgettable night, with headliners such as Johnny Mokhali bringing about a legendary night of legends.
Organized by Leonard Maphakela, better known as DJ Leon of Leon Promotions, the event drew a lively crowd eager to relive the charm of the 1960s through the 1990s.
Speaking after the show, DJ Leon expressed his gratitude to the community for their support.
“I think the event went well with the setting and sound. Even though we went into this alone without sponsorship support, the fans came through for us. I was particularly grateful because it brought together people of all ages, and everyone left happy,” he said.
Despite facing challenges in securing a suitable venue, Maphakela credited Ncinci Motsemme of Kwa Ga Ncinci for offering the space that made the night possible. He appealed to stakeholders and potential sponsors to come on board for future editions, promising an even grander production next time.
The fashion on display paid homage to vintage trends, with guests dressed in long, dotted dresses, berets, fedoras, and Ivy caps. The décor complemented the retro theme complete with steel cups, old-style kettles, and a 1970s yacht-boy styled radio that added to the nostalgic ambiance.
Musically, the night belonged to Maun’s legendary performers. Stiga Sola took the stage first, captivating the crowd with his signature old-school sound and energetic stage presence with his long time hits such as ‘Kachire’. His performance reminded fans why he remains one of Maun’s most cherished music icon.
Then came the show-stopping moment around midnight with Johnny Mokhali’s electrifying performance. The veteran singer ignited the crowd with his timeless classic “O Manoni Wami,” earning thunderous applause as he showed off his dance moves. Later, when he performed “Ngwanaka,” the audience sang along word for word, creating a wave of nostalgia that defined the night.
Mokhali’s set, joined by his partner in a duet, became one of the most talked-about highlights of the evening. With music, fashion, and a community spirit rooted in appreciation of the past, Maun Vintage Vibes 2.0 proved to be a celebration of heritage, culture, and timeless artistry.
“We’re building something special for Maun,” DJ Leon added. “Next time, it will be bigger, better, and even more vintage.”
