Maun Spin Fiesta Is Back

Date:

The third edition of Spin Fiesta is expected to bring together a total of 12 decorated professional spinners from Namibia, South Africa and Botswana on November 9th at Maun Sports complex.

The first and second editions of Maun Spin Fiesta were held in 2018, 2019 and the event was postponed since 2020 due to effects brought by Covid-19. The event is organised by Botswana Spin Masters. The sport that originates from Soweto in South Africa has gained a lot of popularity and interest in Botswana as one of the most crowd pulling motor sport adventures.

In an interview, Botswana Spin Masters Chairperson Thuso Mudongo said that the main objective of the event is to bring sports tourism to Maun, to diverse the economy in terms of hospitality and accommodation.

Mudongo has stated that through the event, they also intend to boost the Maun economy as motorsport lovers throng will have the opportunity to buy artefacts from locals. He also noted that the event will also seek services from Maun that include tyre services, sound hire, security services among others.

However, Mudongo has pleaded with the business community and different stakeholders to support them in making the event a success as they have not yet secured any sponsorship. Mudongo has noted that the support they have been getting from the Maun community when hosting the event has not been up to expectation hence this year’s event fused music into the activities.

“I urge all the car maniacs in Maun and surrounding areas to give us support by buying tickets to the event. The early bird tickets will start to go on sale from 1st October 2024 and ticket point of sales will be communicated in due course,” he said.

According to Mudongo, the last edition of the Maun Spin Fiesta had shown improvement compared to the first edition in terms of growth, the number of participants and had attracted potential sponsors such as Ngami Toyota, Supa Quick, MVA Fund and Beef Boys.
