- the deceased men were found lying unconscious with injuries
Police in Maun are investigating two separate suspected murder incidents that occurred over the weekend in the wards of Thito and Bombadi respectively.
According to the Maun Police Station Commander Superintendent Joseph Lepodise, one incident took place around midnight at Thito ward on the 21st of June involving a 24-year-old man of Beetsha village.
Lepodise revealed that during their escort at Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital, police officers were alerted by a nurse that a certain young man was brought to the hospital in the wee hours and left by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in a very critical condition.
He said police then rushed to the scene to confirm the reports where they found him lying unconscious on a pavement by the EMS department. Lepodise said after a few hours they received a call that the deceased had already passed away.
The deceased is said to have succumbed to injuries on his head of which a blunt object is suspected to have been used. Superintendent Lepodise indicated that the body of the deceased is currently lying at the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
In the other incident that took place on the same day (21st of June), Lepodise revealed that they received a call from a passerby around 5:30am, informing them about another man lying unconscious by the road side in Bombadi ward.
He said police then rushed to the scene where they found the 23-year-old man of the same ward also lying on a pavement between yards and rushed him to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital.
The superintendent said around at 0800hrs they received a call that the man had passed on as well. “The 23-year-old deceased had injuries all over his body when the police found him at the scene, with visible ones on his legs and shoulder,” he reported.
The deceased’s body is also lying at the hospital morgue pending the autopsy results to establish the deceased’s cause of death.
He said that they are still investigating to establish what really transpired that could have led to the suspected brutal killings of both men. The police boss noted that in both incidents, they have not arrested any suspect and he has since appealed to the public to bring forth any information that could lead to a breakthrough in all of the cases.
