Maun Netball Club Registration Sluggish

Date:

The newly formed Maun based netball club that was established in August last year is yet to be registered with the Register of Societies.

The Maun Netball Club plans to affiliate with Botswana Netball Association (BONA) and represent the region in the national league.

One of the club’s task force members, Mokeresete Mokeresete has revealed that the registration process was underway, and also appealed for support in terms of new players, and coaches. He further called on potential sponsors to come on board and assist in areas of transports and equipment.

“We need skilled manpower to run a successful club in terms of trained coaches and the members of the financial committee, so we are mobilising on that to ensure that we get the relevant people,” Mokeresete said.

He noted that the task force team is liaising with the community and other stakeholders to raise awareness about their new project, and drum support for the team that would represent the region.

“We are working extremely hard to make sure that by the time we launch the team, everything will be in place.  We will also commence our training sessions after acquiring all the relevant equipment that would motivate our players to come for training on daily basis,” he noted.

Mokeresete stressed that their intention is to get all the relevant requirements on board so that they can run a professional club that can compete well at national competitions.

He added that for the club to develop it has to partake in various competitions where it can have an opportunity to play against other netball clubs from across different parts of the country.

Furthermore, he highlighted that most netball competitions are held outside Maun, which requires adequate financial budget that would satisfy all their expenses.

Meanwhile, Mokeresete is of the view that the level of interest in netball in the community has grown over the past years and that has been captivated by the fact that the Senior Women National Netball Team has been doing well in international competitions that include the World Netball Cup.

Botswana moved seven places up in the latest World Netball rankings released on the 19th December 2022 by World Netball, from the 31st spot to the 24th.

According to BONA, the positive move in World Netball Rankings came following Botswana’s triumph at the Asia Nations Cup which was held from the 4th -10th December 2022 at the OCBC Arena in Singapore. Botswana has now garnered 46 points from the 33 it had in the previous World Netball Rankings.
