On his debut race at the just ended Khawa Dune Challenge and Cultural Festival, Maun Club biker, Mogolo Sechube managed to clinch a quad bike title.
Sechube won 2022 Class Best New Comer and the 2022 Class Wildebeest Quads categories. He was also awarded certificate of participation for the Quad Bike Challenge. Riding on his Yamaha 450R quad bike Sechube clocked 5 hours 44 minutes and 28 seconds in the 500 kilometre race.
In an interview with Times Sports, attributed the win at Khawa to hard work, dedication and sacrifices he made preparing for the challenge. After years of attending the annual Khawa Challenge to watch the quad bike races, Sechube this year got courage and decided to compete.
“It was a wow moment to win the race! I felt like I was on top of the world, winning is such a wonderful thing, it is an acknowledgement of a job well done,” he expressed delighted.
Sechube highlighted the importance for one to be physically and mentally fit in order to participate in the race, adding that after a long journey to Khawa a day before the race, the only thing he had to do was to stay positive.
He dedicated the win to the Team Maun Club which he appreciated for having given him the support and encouragement necessary to remain focussed. He revealed that while he had no sponsorship, the team members contributed towards its participation from their pockets.
“I also received a lot of support from Maun councillors – Nico Folae, Moetetsi Mogalakwe, Tswelelo Sebati and Kgosi Oatleng Setlhodi who were also present at the event,” he appreciated.
Sechube noted that it was challenging to prepare for the race because the bike needed to be fully serviced, and also protective clothing which are not available in Maun.
He encouraged the aspiring quad bikers to be passionate if they want to make achievements in the sport.
