Six robbers who blasted open a safe at Cheetah Cement and made off with P35 000, USD 3.800 and two cellphones on Friday morning in Matsiloje are still on the run.
Leaving behind 44-year-old security guard nursing injuries, bruises and an aching body. Matsiloje Police station commander said the six robbers tied up the security guard after assaulting him.
“The identities of the robbers are unknown. All we know so far is that they were six, whether they were all men or females, we are yet to establish that information. For now, details are very sketchy,” said Ngada.
The robbers are said to have pounced on the guard in the early hours of Friday morning, gained access to the office and then blew the safe, where they retrieved the money.
“The robbers are said to have been wearing wearing balaclavas. The guard was not able to identify any of the culprits. So far there are no leads to who the robbers are, where they are either. If they are Batswana or foreigners,” continued Matsiloje Police Station commander.
“However, the guard was treated for the injuries and discharged. He is recovering well.”
Ngada urged business owners and the public at large to desist from keeping large sums of money in their premises or homes, and be cautious when every time they carry large amounts of cash.
“Keeping large sums of money on the premises or in homes make people prime targets of robbers. People should keep money in banks and transact electronically whenever they need to make payments. This case of robbery is the first this year in my jurisdiction. I am appealing to anyone with information pertaining to this robbery to come forward, or has seen people splashing money around to alert the police,” pleaded Ngada.
