Marc Germiquet Raises P300 000 For Education

Date:

After Marc Germiquet’s Historic completion of the World’s Toughest Row, his efforts have amassed an astonishing P300,000 for the Bush Ways Foundation, furthering education initiatives in Botswana’s remote communities.

“This journey has been about so much more than personal achievement. The funds raised will have a lasting impact on the education of children in remote Mababe village. I am honored that my efforts have been able to bring us closer to making a tangible difference for these young learners,” Germiquet shared.

Originally, Germiquet aimed to fund the construction of a pre-primary school, but overwhelming support from donors and sponsors allowed the initiative to expand. The P150,000 raised through public donations was matched by Bush Ways, doubling the total funds to P300,000. With this increased backing, the Foundation has now committed to adopting Mababe Primary School, focusing on improving lower primary facilities, educational resources, and overall learning conditions.

Bush Ways Foundation continues to play a crucial role in Botswana’s education and community development. While the initial plan was to build a new school, the decision to adopt Mababe Primary School allows for a more immediate and direct impact on students and teachers in one of Botswana’s most remote areas. Talks with school management are underway to determine the best way forward.

“Though our original goal was to construct a pre-primary school, we have recalibrated our approach in light of the support received. By adopting Mababe Primary School, we can directly impact the          education of children in one of the most remote parts of Botswana. This new direction allows us to ensure the development of essential educational infrastructure, including better resources and facilities, and to offer ongoing support to teachers and students,” said Germiquet.

Germiquet embarked on the 3,000-mile journey from La Gomera, Spain, to Antigua, braving unpredictable weather, relentless ocean currents, and physical exhaustion for 43 days. As the director and founder of Bush Ways, a safari company deeply connected to Botswana’s rural communities, he combined his passion for adventure with a noble cause—improving access to education.

Despite facing broken equipment, a damaged rudder, and the mental strain of isolation, Germiquet powered through, keeping his ultimate goal in mind. His perseverance paid off as he not only completed the race but secured an impressive 11th place overall out of 38 competitors and finished as the third-fastest solo rower.

Germiquet’s achievement has not only raised funds but also inspired a nation. His success highlights the power of resilience and the impact of sports in driving social change. His efforts continue to push for accessible, quality education while promoting adventure sports and tourism in Botswana.

For those who wish to contribute, donations to the Bush Ways Foundation remain open, with funds directed toward the ongoing development of Mababe Primary School and other critical community initiatives.

Bush Ways Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving access to education, healthcare, and community development in Botswana’s remote areas. Through initiatives like this, the Foundation strives to uplift underserved communities and provide lasting opportunities for future generations.
