Man Faces Three Charges Including Threat To Kill And Assault

Date:

A 47-year-old Maun man, Shandulani Masole, recently appeared before the Maun Magistrate’s Court facing three separate charges, including threat to kill and two counts of assault causing bodily harm.

Masole appeared before Magistrate Gofaone Mosweu, where he was informed that the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had served the court with a consent authorising the continuation of his trial.

The accused is alleged to have committed the offences in Shashe Ward, Maun, between August and September 2025.

On the first count of threat to kill, the court heard that on or about 30 August 2025, Masole allegedly caused Nangana Kambathi to fear for her life after uttering threatening words against her.

According to the charge sheet, Masole is said to have told the complainant: “Kana ke fetse ka wena, ke tlaa go bolaya bo ke siela South Africa, wena monna Nangana ke to go go bolaya ka go go kokotela sepekere ka hamole,” which translates to threats of killing her and fleeing to South Africa, and specifically stating he would kill her by hammering a nail into her head or words to that effect.

In the second count, Masole is accused of unlawfully assaulting the same complainant still on the same date and place, thereby causing her actual bodily harm. The prosecution alleges that the assault was intentional and resulted in physical injury to the complainant.

The third charge also relates to assault causing bodily harm. It is alleged that on or about third of September 2025, Masole again assaulted Kambathi at or near Shashe Ward in Maun, where he allegedly returned to the complainants home at night, eavesdropped on her phone conversation, forcefully took it, and assaulted her when she demanded it back.

The court was told that the matter has been consolidated into three charges arising from incidents involving the same complainant and occurring within the same locality.

During the proceedings, it was confirmed that the DPP had reviewed the matter and issued consent for the prosecution to proceed, effectively allowing the case to move forward to trial stage.

Masole was informed of the charges and his case is expected to proceed to case management before trial. The matter has been adjourned to 18 May 2026, when further directions will be taken to prepare for the commencement of trial proceedings. The accused remains in custody as the legal process continues.
