Police in Sehithwa are investigating two separate violent incidents that took place recently in the area, one involving a fatal stabbing in Kgosing ward, while the other left a man hospitalised after being attacked with a machete in Semboyo village.
In the first incident, a 27-year-old man of Kgosing ward in Sehithwa allegedly stabbed and killed a 47-year-old man who had originally come from Rasesa but was now staying in Sehithwa. The incident reportedly happened when the deceased was walking his dog before meeting his tragic death.
Sehithwa Police Station Commander, Superintendent Molly Moduke, confirmed the matter in an interview with The Ngami Times. She said police received a report from a 35-year-old woman who was in her yard at the time. The woman told police that the fight took place just outside her home along the passage.
According to Superintendent Moduke, the misunderstanding started when the suspect insulted the deceased’s dog. The deceased then questioned the suspect about the insult, which reportedly led to an argument. The two men started fighting, and during the struggle, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed the deceased once in the stomach.
The injured man was rushed to Sehithwa Clinic for medical attention. From there, he was referred to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital and later to Doctors Inn Private Hospital also in Maun, where he died from his injuries. Superintendent Moduke confirmed that the suspect was arrested on the same day the incident took place.
In another matter, Superintendent Moduke reported an unlawful wounding incident where a 41-year-old man from Tapologo ward in Semboyo attacked a 30-year-old man also from the same ward following a night of entertainment. The suspect allegedly confronted the victim, accusing his siblings of stealing his cellphone, and fled to Makakung village.
When the victim denied any of the allegations about the stolen phone, the suspect allegedly pulled out a machete hidden under his shirt and hit the victim on the head with the blunt side of the weapon. The victim was first taken to Sehithwa Clinic, then immediately referred to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital, and finally transferred to Nyangabwe Hospital in Francistown, where he is hospitalised and currently receiving treatment.
Superintendent Moduke confirmed that the suspect was also arrested on the same day. She added that police investigations into both cases are ongoing.
