Man Dies From An Accidentally Discharged Gunshot

Date:

In a rather bizarre freak accident, a 43-year-old man of Shakawe village reportedly lost his life recently after he accidentally shot himself with a shotgun.

Shakawe Police Station Commander Superintendent Goitsemodimo Molapisi confirmed that the incident occurred when the deceased had gone fishing with his 35-year-old friend at Xhamotego Island inside the Okavango Delta near Ikoga village at around 6pm in the evening.

The gun is reported to have accidentally discharged, and the bullet hitting the deceased on the chest, at time when he was trying to put it down and focus on his fishing net. His friend is said to have only heard the gun shot and turned to see what transpired only to see the deceased on the ground with blood oozing out of his body.

Molapisi said the matter was reported to them by the same friend and police immediately rushed to the scene where they indeed found the deceased lying on the ground with a gun also lying next to him. They immediately rushed him to the JP Kavindama Hospital in Shakawe where he was confirmed dead by medical doctors.

Molapisi indicated that the body of the deceased was further taken to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital for post mortem and it was confirmed that he indeed died because of a gun wound.

Meanwhile the Station Commander has stated that they are still doing further investigation to confirm if the deceased truly shot himself by mistake as alleged or there were some sort of foul play.

Molapisi has since encouraged the public to always be cautious when handling dangerous equipment as they could instantly take one’s life.
