A 54-year-old teacher, Ruth Fana and her daughter Onnalenna Fana (35) charged for the murder of 73-year-old grandmother, Elicar Fana in Makobo village have been granted conditional bail.
Francistown Principal Magistrate, Thapelo Buang who had initially advised the duo to approach the High court for their liberty, has last week Friday granted them bail. The mother and daughter duo have been languishing in jail since July last year.
35-year-old Onnalenna had pleaded with the court to allow her to see her children once she is released on bail. “I have learnt that my youngest child is in foster care. It is my plea I be allowed to see my child and the person looking after him,” requested the mother of two.
Her 54-year-old mother informed court that she needed to go to her home village of Makobo because her house had been broken into and furniture stolen.
“I know you have told me to stay away from Makobo, but I need to check what was stolen from my house and then make a police report. Because some of the furniture I had bought on credit from one of the furniture shops and I was still paying for it,” pleaded the primary school teacher.
Among their bail conditions, they were ordered to each pay P5000 cash, provide two sureties being relatives who will also bind themselves with P10 000 each and not interfere with investigations or any of the witnesses in this matter
Further, the accused persons are also to report themselves to Tati Town police fortnightly on Mondays, surrender their travelling documents and attend all Court sessions without fail.
“You must refrain from committing any similar offences to the one charged with,” added Principal Magistrate Buang.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor Moatlhodi Macheng told court that the forensic analysis results are ready. “Investigations into this matter are complete. We are now finalising on having the file of the accused persons ready to be committed to the High Court,” Macheng appraised the court.
As of Tuesday, this week, the accused persons had not yet complied with the bail conditions. The duo return to Court on 27 April.
