Loapi Stores Empowers Matlapana Community Through Sports

Date:

As part of its corporate social responsibility by giving back and empowering the community, Loapi Stores which operates at Matlapana ward in Maun organised a Social Clubs Charity Cup in the area.

The Charity Cup brought together four local social clubs that included Matlapana, Diratsagae, Ba Segi and Slow Loris. Loapi Stores as the sponsor of the cup had identified Matlapana Social Club to become the hosts and unveiled a brand new kit for the club after realising its need.

The tournament had brought together many people from different backgrounds hence building social cohesion and inclusion. It has also boosted some of the small businesses operating nearly as the spectators were buying from them.

Giving an overview of the cup, Loapi Stores Managing Director Disang Reyakae said that by organising the tournament they intended to give back to the residents of Matlapana as they have been supporting their business immensely. He stated that they have also realised that shortage of kits was a challenge for Matlapana Social Club hence they decided to donate one for them.

For his part, Matlapana ward Headmen Jonah Mbwe has commended Loapi Stores for organising the tournament, saying that sport plays a very important role in fostering unity and enhancing physical and mental health. He emphasised the importance of the tournament indicating that it refrained the Matlapana youth from immoral habits by keeping them busy.

“Loapi Stores has set an example for other businesses that operate in Matlapana, I would like to urge other businesses to follow suit so that they can also have a role in developing the community,” he said.

Diratsagae Social Club Public Relations Officer, Derrick Npontshang has stated that their team is made up of youthful and energetic players hence they managed to win as their opponents were senior people. He commended Loapi Stores for organising the tournament indicating that it was a way of refraining the youth from social ills and bringing the community together.

Meanwhile, Diratsagae Social Club emerged the champions of the tournament after defeating Matlapana Social Club 5-4 at the penalties, following a 1-1 draw. Thus, Matlapana Social Club took position two followed by Ba Segi on the third position while Slow Loris took the last position.
