Let BCP Solve Botswana’s Problems – Saleshando

Date:

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) leader, Dumelang Saleshando has likened Botswana under the leadership of President Mokgweetsi Masisi to a patient who shows signs of sickness without any hope of recovery.

Speaking at the launch of BCP secretary general, Goretetse Kekgonegile in Maun East this weekend, Saleshando said the decision to either leave the country’s problems to deteriorate and lead it into an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) by voting the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) during this coming general elections lies with the voters.

Saleshando told the Maun East electorates that the BCP offers an alternative, to save Botswana from the situation the country finds itself under the rule of the BDP.

Saleshando said Masisi has throughout his entire term has taken the country’s economy to the gutters, leaving Batswana in a dire situation – again using an example of a patient whose heart has irregular beats, with high temperature and consequently needs to be admitted into a hospital. He highlighted that ever since Masisi came to power, the number of people living in dire poverty has risen citing a report from Statistics Botswana.

Further, Saleshando added that a report by The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has also indicated that Batswana’s food consumption patterns ever since Masisi took over has changed for the worse.

He further claimed that Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) has also released a report indicating that investors are now shunning the country and looking elsewhere to invest. He added that the country’s Government Investment Account (GIA) has also declined as recently revealed by Minister of Finance, Peggy Serame.

Meanwhile, Saleshando has since urged Maun East constituents to vote Kekgonegile whom he said his works and track record of what he did for the constituency speaks for itself.

“Kekgonegile does not want to be in parliament to brag about that but he wants to represent you because issues of this region are troubling him. Between 2019 to 2024, parliament records can show that the name of Maun East popped up many times as compared to other years because it has an MP who is doing his work. We are in times that needs men and women like him.”

The BCP leader added, “the badge to speak for disadvantaged employees suits Kekgonegile because he knows these issues very well. We recently had a tussle with the BDP as it refused to amend the constitution and indicate that Batswana have the right to decent work instead of it just being the right to work.”

For his part, Kekgonegile has also requested for a vote to continue the journey of representing the constituency indicating that opting for the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) would be a waste of votes. The BDP on the other hand he said for the past 60 years in power has violated people by subjecting them to a poor economic status, poor health provisions, unemployment and lack of land.

“We are talking change of government because we ca not continue like this. Its high time we show the BDP that enough is enough,” he said.
