Khoemacau Copper Mine will on Sunday (October 16th) host its inaugural charitable challenge dubbed the ‘Khoemacau Copper Mining GM’s Lake Ngami Cycle Classic’ in Toteng Village in the North West District.
The objective of the event is to raise funds which shall be ploughed back into the Khoemacau Communities of Interest being Sehithwa, Toteng, Komana, Makgalo, Legotlhwana, Bodibeng, Bothatogo and Somelo.
Event Organiser Ontitile Zimona has explained that this will be done through community development projects which have been developed by the communities through facilitation by Khoemacau.
Zimona has explained that the classic comprises cycling, running and walking categories. She revealed that First Lady Neo Masisi will be the guest rider.
The cycling categories comprises of 120 km scheduled to start at 7am, 60km set for 7:10am and the 30km which will commence at 7:20am. There will also be a 10 km run/walk which will start at 7:30am.
According to Zimona, the classic is tipped to be attended by over 200 cyclists and runners from the northwest district and beyond. She revealed that the route of the classic starts in Toteng village running through Legotlhwana, Sehithwa and Bodibeng villages, and then finishes back in Toteng.
Zimona also revealed that the winners of the different categories will be rewarded with cash prizes. Pre-race events will include tree planting activities in Toteng village and Mine sites happening on Saturday 15th.
