Police in Kasane yesterday (Thursday) fatally shot one robbery suspect while three accomplices fled the scene after getting away with cash amounting to P25 000 and two cell phones from a Chinese couple at a local guest house located at Plateau ward. The Chinese couple aged 73-year-old and 47-year-old operate a business in Kasane.

Officer Commanding District NO.7 Senior Superintendent Meshack Pulenyane confirmed that the incident occurred at around 0300hrs in the morning and they received the report some few minutes after it took place.

Pulenyane said following the call, police then rushed to the scene and chased the suspects’ vehicle. Two other suspects are reported to have instantly exited the vehicle and fled on foot following the police pursuit, while the other two later stopped the vehicle after being intercepted by the police.

While attempting to arrest the duo, the other suspect is reported to have involved in a scuffle with a police officer subsequently threatening him with a pickaxe and a knife. Pulenyane revealed that the other police officer then shot the suspect in an effort to defend his colleague, while the other suspect fled away during the scuffle.

Pulenyane indicated that the suspects were driving a silver Toyota Run-X inside which they identified a cable tie and a bag containing coins which were reportedly stolen from the victims. He mentioned that the identified cable was the one that was used to tie the victims during the course of the robbery incident. He further revealed that the deceased who appear to be at his earlier 30s is currently lying at Kasane primary hospital mortuary for identification.

Pulenyane has pleaded with anyone who might know the suspect or his family members to engage the police or Kasane primary hospital mortuary department. He also pleaded with members of the public to help the police in their effort to arrest the other three other suspects who fled away.
