JJ United Club’s League Status Sold At Giveaway Price

Date:

JJ United FC President, Humphrey Jarijari has revealed that the sale agreement of the club’s First Division North League status to Satau United from Chobe did not meet the offer that they demanded from the buyer.

JJ United from Sefhare village which made its debut participation in the 2025/2026 season First Division North League announced the sale of the club’s status earlier this year citing financial challenges and needs stretching from training equipment, players, management, and technical staff welfare, travelling and food expenses to playing kits.

The team had called for individuals, businesses and the corporate world to come on board with sponsorship/for partnership or to attain its First Division North status.

Following the call from JJ United, Satau United announced recently that it has successfully acquired First Division status from JJ United FC, marking a significant milestone in the club’s development and ambitions.

In an interview, Jarijari said that the sale of the club’s league status was mainly due to financial challenges and unsustainable operational costs. Though he could not reveal the exact selling price of the team’s league status, Jarijari stated that the price was just a giveaway, citing that it is even not close to what they asked for.

“We did not have funds to run the team in the next coming season, looking at our budget we decided to sell the team, I was the only person who was sponsoring the team, we tried to reach out to the business community to seek for sponsorship but we were not successful,” he said.

However, Jarijari noted that selling the club’s league status does not mean that it no longer exist, stating that the team is still active and it will participate in the Tswapong Division One League next season. He explained that there are no plans to drop the current players from the team.

He however indicated that the club’s management is willing to facilitate the movement of those who may leave the team to join other teams in First Division League and Premier League. Jarijari said that so far two of the coaches from the club have already expressed their will to leave the club.

When asked why the team dropped some of its key players after being promoted to the First Division League last season, Jarijari noted that some of those players were demanding high salaries that are not affordable and also presented signs of disrespect to the management.

Jarijari highlighted that the four players that were dropped from the team were demanding high salaries that are not affordable. He further stated that these four players also presented signs of disrespect while negotiating for the increment of their salaries.

“If you are requesting for a salary you don’t have to disrespect the management, you still have to keep along with the guidelines of how you engage your management,” he said.

According to Jarijari, after securing promotion to the First Division League last season, the team had 15 key players and it was left with 11 players after dropping those four players. He however indicated that they reinforced the team with players from different regions with higher experience.

Satau United President, Ali Mainga has confirmed that they have acquired the First Division League status from JJ United, revealing that they have submitted all the required documents to Botswana Football Association (BFA). He explained that the acquisition of JJ United league status marks their intention to grow as the team as they continue to build a sustainable and elite brand.

Mainga noted that plans are underway to beef up their squad as they will be participating in the First Division League next season. He however stated that currently their team consists of young and vibrant players who have the potential to play football.

Mainga acknowledged that as Satau United they are aware of the challenges facing First Division North League teams associated with travelling costs and lack of sponsorship. He however noted that they will come up with plans to overcome these challenges.
