Investigations on a case in which a 21-year old man of Sedie Ward in Maun is accused of brutally murdering and burning his 12-year-old sister beyond recognition in 2022 are complete, the State has revealed.
The accused person Ogona Thabologang is alleged to have murdered his sister Lesego Thabologang on the 4th of September 2022 around 2030 at Sedie in their bedroom and later took her corps to a bush near their home and burnt it beyond recognition.
He thereafter reportedly confessed to the offence during interrogation after his arrest. The accused is said to have took the police to the scene where they found the 12-year-old deceased’s body which was burnt beyond recognition. He however reportedly did not explain the reasons to committing the horrific offence.
Appearing before Maun Chief Magistrate Thebeetsile Mulalu recently the Investigating Officer (IO) told court that investigations on the matter are complete adding that the docket is ready to be sent to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).
For his part Mulalu instructed the IO to look into a ruling made in March this year to transfer the accused person to Ikgago Rehabilitation Centre or Moshupa Boys Prison as per the recommendation by a psychiatric evaluation. This comes after Mulalu demanded to know as to why the accused person was yet to be taken to any of the mentioned centres.
Thabologang went through a psychiatric assessment following Mulalu’s recommendation after noticing unusual conduct during his previous court appearances. He was subsequently taken to Jubilee Psychiatric Hospital in Francistown on the 20th November 2022 for assessment.
The accused person has on several attempts failed to get bail since his arrest in 2022, this according to Mulalu is because a psychiatric report revealed that the accused person suffers from anti-social personalities characterised by excessive substance abuse and aggressiveness towards community members hence he is not fit to be around the community. He noted that unless the psychiatrist made changes to the report that is when he may consider his bail application.
Thabologang will appear in court again today (Friday) for status update.
