Patient 102: When Love Is a Silent Killer

As told to Mpumi Mosweu

She lights another cigarette with shaky fingers. “I was never like this,” she says softly, her voice breaking. “But he made sure I became what he could point at and say, ‘See? She’s the problem.

“Patient 102, a woman once full of life, now sits drowning in shame, confusion, and a silence that screams louder than words. Married to a narcissist for over a decade, her pain is invisible to the world, because he made sure!) it stayed that way.

“He plays innocent. He tells people I drink too much, that I twist his words, that I’m emotionally unstable. But they don’t know, he’s the one who twists everything. He calls people behind my back, tells them half-truths, adds poison to my name, and then smiles in public like he’s the saint trying to save me.”

He micro-manages his lies like a professional carefully curating his image, spinning stories, and turning every argument into a stage where she plays the villain and he plays the victim

“He remembers everything I said in confidence… and then uses it as ammunition. He calls it ‘truth’ when really, it’s just betrayal wrapped in fake concern.”

She’s now labelled the drunk, the crazy one, the difficult wife.

Family cut her off. Friends disappeared. Even her own children hesitate around her.

No one sees the gaslighting, the manipulation, the cruel twisting of her reality.

They only see a woman unraveling.

“Sometimes I wonder if he ever loved me. Or did he just choose me because I was easy to isolate?”

She is not just heartbroken; she is mentally and spiritually injured.

And the worst part? Everyone believes him.

Response from Mpumi Mosweu – The Mental Health Advocate

To Patient 102 and Every Silent Victim

Dear Soul,

What you’re going through is not madness it’s the effect of calculated emotional abuse. Narcissists don’t just destroy relationships, they destroy reputation. They isolate you, then present your reaction to their abuse as proof that you’re unstable.

You are not weak. You’re wounded.

You are not a liar. You’ve been lied about.

You are not dirty. You are covered in the dust of a battle you never chose.

It is not your shame to carry.

What you need now is healing and truth.

Reclaim your voice. Rebuild your self-worth. Get professional support if you can, and begin to cut the strings he used to control you.

Let this message echo in the hearts of every woman stuck in similar chains:

You’re not the mad one. You’re the silenced one. And it’s time to speak.

We believe you. And we are not afraid to call it what it is – abuse.
