‘I’M GUILTY’ 80 -Year-Old Man Pleads Guilty For Raping Step Daughter

An 80-year-old man, of Lephare cattle post near Maun who was charged with three counts of raping his 12-year-old step daughter has pleaded guilty to the charges.  

The accused person is alleged to have on three different occasions unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the primary school going student at their cattle post. On the first count, the accused to have sometime in July 2019 following the complainant’s arrival from school dragged her to his bedroom where he raped her.

The accused person is said to have also around May 2020 had sexual intercourse with the complainant once again without her consent. It is said that the old man stopped when the friend to the victim came over to the house looking for her. Upon stopping, he said to have ordered the complainant not to tell anyone about the incident.

On the third count the accused person is alleged to have on the 17th October 2020 raped the complainant again. The 80-year-old is said to have instructed the complainant to take her school uniform to his house and then followed her into the house where he is said to have uttered the words to the complainant, “Ke batla go robala le wena” loosely translated to say “I want to sleep with you.”

He is alleged to have then proceeded to remove the young girl’s under wear before raping her despite the complainant’s cry that she was going to tell her mother if he raped her again.

It is said that while he was raping her, the complainant’s brother and nephew arrived and prior to knocking on the door they peeped through the window and saw the accused having sexual intercourse with the complainant.

Information brought before court is that when the accused person opened the door, the duo allegedly inquired the whereabouts of the victim and he denied knowing where the victim was.

It is alleged that while the accused was still conversing with the duo, the complainant was seen walking out of the accused person’s house covering herself with a blanket.

The complainant’s nephew and brother are said to have then ran to the complainant’s sister to inform her of what they had just witnessed who then reported the matter to the police.

The accused, is out on bail and will appear before the presiding Magistrate Keneilwe Kgoadi on the 4th October 2022 for reading of facts.
