Fans were treated to an electrifying First Division North clash as Sankoyo Bush Bucks F.C. hosted BR Highlanders F.C. in a game that ended in heartbreak for the home side, this past Saturday. Despite their valiant effort, Sankoyo fell short, losing 3-4 in a dramatic encounter at their home ground.
Sankoyo’s Assistant Coach, Oris Salepito, reflected on the match with a mix of pride and determination, “This was a tough game. Our team might be young, but we fought to the last whistle. We had issues in our defense and allowed a few easy goals early on, which made it harder for us to come back. We now assure our supporters that we are heading back to the drawing board to improve for our next game.”
The game opened with relentless attacking from BR Highlanders, who capitalized on defensive lapses by Sankoyo to net two goals in the first half. However, the Bush Bucks proved they weren’t pushovers, striking once to up their score before halftime. Both teams went into the break with a sense of urgency, eager to seize control of the match.
In the second half, Highlanders stepped up their offensive game and struck twice more, showcasing their dominance. Yet, their defense began to crack under pressure as Sankoyo found their rhythm. The Bush Bucks pulled one back late in the half and, in the 90th minute, earned a penalty. The stadium erupted in cheers as Sankoyo converted the spot kick to narrow the margin to just one goal. Despite three minutes of added time and fervent support from the crowd, the Bush Bucks couldn’t find the equalizer.
The Highlanders secured the win and three valuable points, climbing to fourth on the league table, while Sankoyo slipped from ninth to eleventh.
BR Highlanders’ Assistant Coach, Kabo Ditwa, admitted that the victory came with lessons for his team, “We are satisfied with our win, but we’re generally not a team that concedes this many goals in a game. Our defense broke down, and we’ll be addressing these issues to come back stronger in the next match.”
The home crowd, decked out in green and buzzing with vuvuzelas, rallied behind Sankoyo with chants and songs, especially after the penalty goal. Their unwavering support added to the pulsating atmosphere, a testament to the passionate fanbase of the Bush Bucks.
As the league progresses, the First Division North promises more thrilling encounters. Sankoyo Bush Bucks will look to bounce back in their upcoming away fixture, while BR Highlanders aim to build on their momentum. The season is heating up, and every point counts in the race for the top.
