- as they record 30 cases of traffic rules violation
As Operation Pabalesego II continues, Police in Gweta have made an emphasis on road safety measures as they have observed that people continue to violate traffic regulations despite police awareness message.
Gweta Police Station Commander, Superintendent Tabengwa Magwama revealed that from the 5th to the 10th of the December they were focusing on road safety on the A3 road as well as within the village.
Magwama revealed that between that period they recorded 30 cases of road traffic regulation violation.
From the offenses registered, 15 were for over speeding, 6 driving without a licence, pirating (1), general defects of vehicles (5), unrenewed vehicle registration (1), overloading (1) and another of driving without wearing a seating belt.
Magwama decried that the offences were a clear indication that drivers continue to violate traffic regulations despite efforts made by the police in cautioning them about road safety.
He revealed a new trend where people try to evade mounted road blocks, by attempting U-turns and taking alternative routes, proving to the police that they are in the wrong.
He cautioned the public against such behaviour, urging them to always cooperate with the police. “The public should know that we are here to help protect their lives hence we pleaded for their cooperation,” he stressed.
Further, Magwama warned parents against giving their unlicensed children cars. He also emphasized on obeying speed limits, wearing seatbelts and being alert on the A3 road that is under maintenance and has a prevalence of animals.
Meanwhile, Magwama revealed that on December 8th, they held a successful workshop in Gweta focusing on Gender Based Violence. Sponsored by Uncharted Africa, the workshop put an emphasis on the role of upbringing in GBV.
“It has been observed that children who grow up in abusive homes often internalise violent behaviors as a normal way to resolve conflict. They are also more likely to become perpetrators or victims of violence in adulthood.”
He said the workshop was well attended by community representatives mainly the youth as well as chiefs and experts who led the engagements. A similar successful workshop was also held in Tsokotshaa.
In closing, Magwama noted that throughout the operation they will continue sustain visibility on the A3 road, within Gweta village and surroundings areas to ensure public safety during this festive season.
