Grays Eden Marks Two Years Of Luxury Connected To Maun

Date:

This month marks exactly two years since Grays Eden Sanctuary Hotel first opened its doors to travellers. To mark this significant milestone, the facility celebrated its second anniversary on Friday by hosting a group of inbound booking agents for an evening of festivities.

The choice to host these destination management companies was highly deliberate, as these partners have introduced and recommended Grays Eden to clients, driving its continuous growth over the past two years.

Grays Eden operates as a business partnership between its founders, Sam and Sandrine Morris, and Ker & Downey Botswana, a subsidiary of Chobe Holdings Limited.

This partnership pioneered a first-of-its-kind luxury facility in Maun designed to offer guests a distinctive hospitality experience, thereby encouraging visitors to spend extra nights in the tourism hub.

During last week’s celebratory event, which culminated in a dinner, agents received an exclusive tour of the hotel. This allowed them to appreciate various sections, including the reception, guest rooms, wine cellar, garden orchard, and the spa.

Speaking after the tour, Ker & Downey Sales Director Walter Smith painted a glowing picture of Grays Eden Sanctuary two years on. He highlighted that the property’s success depended heavily on a strong network of trusted industry partners, which inspired the decision to host the agents.

Expressing his gratitude to these industry partners, Smith thanked them for introducing the facility to international clients. “Thank you for sharing feedback, offering guidance, and helping the property grow into the experience it aspires to be. Your contribution has been an essential part of Grays Eden’s success over the past two years.”

On Grays Eden’s position in the broader travel industry, Smith was clear: it has expanded the range of high-quality accommodation available to discerning travellers visiting Maun, the Okavango Delta, and greater northern Botswana.

“More importantly, it has demonstrated that luxury in Maun can be both elegant and personal; carefully considered, yet warm and welcoming—sophisticated, while remaining connected to the character of this remarkable destination.”

To this end, Grays Eden gives guests a compelling reason to include Maun in a Botswana itinerary, not simply as a point of arrival and departure, but as a destination worthy of their time, appreciation, and discovery, Smith noted.

There is no doubt that Grays Eden represents the realisation of Sam and Sandrine Morris’s original vision.

According to co-owner Sam Morris, Grays Eden remains a shared vision between him and his wife that came to fruition through precise execution and the right business partnership.

Morris said they envisioned a facility that would expand local bed capacity while matching the high quality found in the Okavango Delta. This standard aims to encourage tourists to spend more time in Maun to learn about the town and its people.

Through that vision, Grays Eden was born two years ago. As Morris noted, they quickly realized a hotel is just a structure without dedicated people driving it. Thanks to partnerships and community support from inception, the operation has successfully matured.

Contrary to popular belief in some quarters, Morris emphasised that the hotel remains accessible to everyone. He added that the domestic market has supported the facility over the past two years, a trend they expect to continue.

“The domestic support we have had in this town is the sustaining factor of this hotel. We have incredible support from domestic customers.”

Morris commended the team that makes the Grays Eden experience magical—an experience that gives guests an authentic taste of Maun and the rich cultural heritage of the region and Botswana.
