Delta Palm Mall in Boseja was abuzz this Wednesday as the Ngamiland District Commission’s office unveiled an impressive exposition highlighting the achievements of its ‘Wealth Creation’ initiative, formerly known as Poverty Eradication.
The two-day event commenced with a district cluster exposition, featuring around 60 graduates who showcased the tangible outcomes of the program.
The event brought together collaborative efforts from districts that included the likes of Okavango, Maun, Ghanzi, and Hukuntsi, and the exposition exhibited an array of handcrafted products, ranging from food items like jams and poultry products to artisanal apparel, including handwoven baskets and travel bags. These offerings served as living proof of the positive impact generated by the wealth creation program.
Moreover, the event recognized and awarded new graduates from the wealth creation programe, who demonstrated exceptional entrepreneurial acumen, having transformed the Wealth Creation fund, amounting to P15000, into thriving businesses
Calvin Tshipi, a program coordinator at the Ngamiland District Commission’s office, emphasized, “The Wealth Creation program has empowered underprivileged members of our society, enabling them to establish businesses that contribute to the economy.”
The two-day affair also provided a platform for success stories from program beneficiaries, notably Mathata Madodo, now a proud owner of a flourishing catering company. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “I began as a street vendor selling sweets. With support from the fund, I ventured into the catering business. Through unwavering determination, my business grew, enabling me to build a home and eventually establish a successful company. This journey was only possible because of the assistance from the fund. I hope my story inspires graduates and fellow Batswana who may underestimate the significance of this program.”
Amongst, dignitaries who graced the opening day was Chief programme officer from the Ministry of Entrepreneur, Lesego Sepato an official from the Department of Enterprise as well as Assistant District Commissioner, Ramogaupi Gaborekwe.
