The Government of Botswana has committed over P1 million to sponsor the 2026 National Volleyball League (NVL). The funding is earmarked for mobilisation grants, administrative costs, and prize money for both the men’s and women’s leagues.
The league, which served off on March 7, 2026, features 14 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams. Following a single round-robin format, the structure ensures every club competes against one another.
A breakdown of the budget shows P567,840.00 allocated to mobilisation fees and P199,960.00 for administration. The men’s league prize pool stands at P122,500.00, while the women’s league has been allocated P110,500.00.
In an effort to decentralise the sport, matches are scheduled across several regional hubs, including Lobatse, Otse, Serowe, Francistown, Gaborone, Thebephatshwa Air Base, and the Molepolole IHS.
The Contenders
The men’s division features BDF VI, Block Busters, Dikwena, Itekeng, Kalavango, Kutlwano, Mafolofolo, Mag Stimela, Prisons, Police VI, Sebokeng, Spiking Stars, and Yaros.
The women’s league includes BDF VI, Dikwena, Dynamites, Kalavango, Kutlwano, Mafolofolo, Mag Stimela, Police VI, Prisons, Sebokeng, Spiking Stars, and Yaros.
Driving Development
Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) Media Relations and Marketing Officer, Joe-Brown Tlhalefo, confirmed that clubs will receive mobilisation grants to facilitate travel. He added that the top three teams in each category will receive cash prizes, trophies, and medals.
“This prize structure is designed to reward excellence and ensure participation is financially sustainable,” Tlhalefo said. “It ensures that not only top performers are rewarded, but all clubs benefit from support, reinforcing inclusivity.”
Tlhalefo noted that the NVL aims to resuscitate volleyball in Botswana, strengthen local talent development, and elevate the country’s international profile.
