Gaborone United, Jwaneng Galaxy Ready For CAF Fixtures


Gaborone United and Jwaneng Galaxy have both confirmed their readiness for the upcoming Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup and Champions League slated for next weekend.

On Saturday 19th August 2023, GU will welcome Elgeco Plus from Madagascar in the CAF confederation cup preliminary round at the National Stadium while on Sunday Galaxy will welcome Vipers FC from Uganda for the Total Energies CAF Champions League preliminary round at the Lobatse Sports Complex.

The clubs have been busy with pre-season preparations friendly matches with others still lined up and the duo are happy with the performance they put up so far ahead of the CAF competitions.

GU had friendly matches against South Africa’s Supersport United and Mamelodi Sundowns as well as a match practice against African Stars of Namibia, Holy Ghost and Matebele FC. Galaxy on the other hand will today (Friday) leave for South Africa to take part at the Mangaung Challenge at Dr Molemela Stadium as part of their preparations for the CAF preliminary round fixtures.

GU financier and director Nicholas Zakhem told Times Sport that the team is ready for the CAF competitions, adding that they have availed finances and resources for the competition. Zakhem noted that the team has also signed new contracts to boost their squad for the new season and the CAF competitions.

The team recently signed back Mothusi Cooper for a one-year contract and also boosted their wing department by signing a two-year contract with Poloko Nkakolang from Security Systems.

Zakhem is also pleased that they have signed a new two-year contract with head coach Pontsho Moloi after his contract came to an end last season and he is positive that the coach will continue to add value to the team going forward.

For his part, Jwaneng Galaxy spokesperson Tankiso Morake revealed that the team had good pre-season preparations and also signed new players ahead of the upcoming CAF competition.

The spokesperson revealed that they have signed Goitseone Phoko from Gaborone United to beef up their goal keeping department, Chicco Molefe from Police XI for a 3-year deal, Omaatla Kebatho from Orapa United for 2 years and a 1 and half year renewal contract of Wendell Rudath.

He further revealed that they have also secured two years deal of the Namibian captain, Dynamo Carlos Fredericks from African Stars.
