‘Foundations Donate Sanitary Pads To Support Young Girls’

Date:

The Hope Movers Trust in Botswana, in partnership with the South Africa-based House of Labron Foundation, handed over sanitary pads to Maun Senior Secondary School this past Friday in a gesture aimed at promoting dignity and improving access to education for young girls.

When handing over the donation and certificates of recognition to the school, House of Labron founding director, Dikeledi Moabelo, stated that the gift will go a long way in supporting young girls, particularly those from underprivileged families.

Moabelo noted that their foundation works closely with disadvantaged communities as they endure more hardships than others. She stressed that most times, these hardships negatively affect children from underprivileged families.

She recalled how she once encountered an unfortunate situation when she was still a senior school student, where she had to use tissue paper as a sanitary pad because her family could not afford a packet. Moabelo averred that ever since that day, she was motivated to assist girls facing similar situations in the future.

Moabelo noted that she then established her organisation, House of Labron, in her early twenties to begin her journey, revealing that they have recently made similar donations in Lesotho, Eswatini, Nigeria, and Namibia.

She indicated that after Botswana, they are scheduled to make another donation in Zambia. She mentioned that for them to consider Botswana, Hope Kago of Hope Movers reached out to her via Facebook to ask her to come to Botswana to assist children from poor families.

She stated that they have embarked on a continental journey to reach all parts of Africa. Moabelo stated they have pledged to be a catalyst for change across Africa by spreading love and kindness to those who need it most.

Moabelo further mentioned that their donation is intended to ensure that natural occurrences such as menstruation do not result in student absenteeism. She stressed that they want to see all young girls attending school comfortably, happily, and consistently.

She urged students to support each other and refrain from laughing at a peer if she happens to encounter a menstrual emergency for the first time. Dikeledi also encouraged boys to never bully girls for staining their uniforms, as menstruation is a natural and unpredictable event.

Meanwhile, Iphitlhe Funeral Parlour (IFP) director, Mmolainyana Magonamo, who graced the event, motivated the students to maintain a good attitude both inside and outside of school.

He encouraged them to be humble, obedient, and respectful towards their teachers and guardians. Magonamo advised students that humility pays off, as humble persons within society end up earning everyone’s respect.

The IFP director alluded that the combination of good academic grades and a good attitude moulds a responsible and reputable citizen. Magonamo expressed gratitude towards House of Labron and Hope Movers for their generous act.
