Police in Chobe have arrested a 60-year-old man of Chitudza ward in Parakarungu for allegedly raping his 15-year-old daughter on Tuesday morning.
Officer Commanding District No.7, Senior Superintendent Meshack Pulenyane confirmed that the incident happened at the suspect’s place of residence in Parakarungu during the absence of his wife.
The accused is reported to have gone to the victim’s bedroom and forcefully took her to his own bedroom then raped her. Following the incident, it is said that the victim fled to report to her mother who then informed the police. He revealed that they have since engaged the social worker to provide counselling to the victim.
The accused has since been remanded in custody by Kasane Magistrate’s Court to allow the police to conduct further investigations, while his next appearance is on the 10th June 2025.
Senior Superintendent Pulenyane has condemned the incident, as an embarrassment and gender-based violence (GBV).
In another incident, Pulenyane said that through their collaboration with BDF, they have arrested and charged two Angolan males Mukoti Jimmy aged 51-years and Josewi Simon aged 41-years for entering Botswana through ungazzetted point of entry and unlawful possession of arms and ammunition. The duo was apprehended between Linyanti Wildlife Gate and African Bush Camp in Chobe district.
The accused persons are said to have on the date unknown acting together in a common purpose, unlawfully entered into Botswana through ungazetted point of entry and remained therein.
The accused persons on May 19th found between Linyanti Wildlife Gate and African Bush Camp, in possession of a black armed gladiator pump action 12-gauge serial number 20E-8262 and four live ammunitions.
The duo was remanded in custody by Kasane Magistrate Court on the 20th May 2025 and they will appear on the 26th May 2025 for their next mention.
Pulenyane has further stated that they are investigating a suicide incident which involves a 58-year old man of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. According to him, the deceased was found hanging from a tree at Plateau ward, Kasane by an eye witness on Sunday morning.
Pulenyane stated that preliminary investigations show that before taking his own life the deceased had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend who is also residing in Plateau. According to him, the deceased’s family members have been identified, while his body is currently lying at Kasane Primary Hospital mortuary waiting to be repatriated to Zimbabwe.
