Dynamites Eye DTCB Tournament Championship

Having fulfilled their aim to qualify for the DTCB Top 4 Tournament, next goal for Western Dynamites is to be crowned champions. The tournament is scheduled for the 8 July 2023 in Gaborone at Lekidi Football Centre.

Dynamites of the Nhabe region this past weekend won the DTCB Northern block playoffs that clashed them against Panda United from Chobe, Heritage Academy (Francistown) and Orapa All Stars (Boteti).

All though Dynamites finished the tournament having equal points with Orapa, they were crowned champions because they were leading with goals. They won the playoffs with six points and 26 goals lead from the three games played out of which they won two and lost one.

In their first game, Dynamites walloped Panda United 19-0 and they later defeated Heritage Academy 6-0. They were defeated by Orapa All Stars 3-1 in their last game.

Western Dynamites Coach Tizhani Zibochwa told Times Sport that their main intention has always been to qualify for the DTCB Top 4 Tournament and that motivated them to work hard during their preparations for the playoffs.

He stated that his team consists of youthful and energetic players who are eager to play the game of football hence they managed to win the playoffs.

Zibochwa said they got to the playoffs knowing that that they will be facing some of the experienced teams like Orapa All Stars and Heritage Academy that consists of Under 20 and Under 17 national teams’ players. He said this however could not stop his players from achieving their goal but it instead motivated them to put more effort in their play.

He indicated that about nine of his players had suffered injuries during their game against Heritage Academy something which became a challenge for them when they played their third game against Orapa All Stars. Playing with injured players, Zibochwa said they knew that it was going to be difficult for them to win it.

Next on their assignment, Dynamites are now aiming to also emerge victorious at the DTCB top 4 tournament next month.

“As we are headed for the tournament, my players have confidently assured me that they will demonstrate that it is possible for them as a new team to win the tournament even when they will be competing against highly experienced teams such as Double Action FC,” he said.

Zibochwa said the assurance is an indication that his players are already motivated and determined to take the lead at the tournament.

Dynamites will face champions from the Eastern and the Southern blocks as well as the defending champions, Double Action who has already secured their spot for this year’s tournament.

For this year’s tournament, position will walk away with a whooping P250 000, P150 000 for position two, P100 000 for position three and P50 000 for position four.

In November 2021, Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) and Botswana Football Association (BFA) announced a three year partnership that entails sponsorship of a Women’s Football Championship with the first having been held in last year. The objective of this partnership is to encourage inclusion and diversity in sports and create growth of women’s football in Botswana.
