Delta Spirit produced a dominant display at the BBA North Final Four on Saturday, overwhelming Francistown Heart City 104–64 at the Serowe College Indoor Arena to underline their championship credentials.
The 40 point victory was built on a combination of attacking efficiency, rebounding strength and relentless team play, with Delta Spirit shooting 50 percent from the field compared with Heart City’s 44.8 percent. Delta Spirit also controlled the boards 49–37 and converted 11 of 30 attempts from three-point range, while Heart City struggled from beyond the arc, making just six of 27 attempts.
The champions were led by Tanaka Ndyara, who delivered an outstanding performance on his Final Four debut, scoring 31 points from 13 of 22 shooting, including five three-pointers from eight attempts. Harwood C added 25 points after shooting 10 of 15 from the field, while Dingane Motswadira contributed 21 points on an efficient nine-of-13 shooting.
Lone Ralegoreng was equally influential despite scoring only one point, pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds, including eight defensive rebounds. He also recorded a team-leading plus/minus of +36, highlighting his impact beyond scoring.
Heart City’s best scorer was Tawanaishe C, who finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds after shooting an impressive 8-of-11 from the field. Karabo Geche added 11 points, while captain Simangaliso N contributed nine.
The result completed a weekend in which Heart City had edged Serowe Reptiles 30–29 in a WNBL friendly, while Orapa Juggernauts narrowly defeated Serowe Reptiles 61–60 in the other Final Four encounter.
For Delta Spirit captain Moitshepi Sarefo, however, the foundation of the team’s commanding performance was established long before the final whistle.
“It all starts with team spirit, team chemistry,” Sarefo said. “That’s where it all began. We had to start very strong, because we didn’t want any setbacks. The plan was to dominate from the beginning to the end, and that’s what we actually achieved.”
Sarefo said the team’s continuity had also played an important role in its success. While Delta Spirit lost one player at the beginning of the season, the majority of the squad remained together, while the arrival of Tanaka has added another dimension to the team.
“Everyone in the team has remained a part of Delta,” Sarefo said, adding that Tanaka “has been quite impactful” and has contributed to the team’s strong run.
With the Final Four victory providing another major statement, Delta Spirit are already looking beyond the domestic competition. Sarefo said the team’s ambition is to progress to the Basketball Africa League (BAL), but acknowledged that doing so will require first conquering the best teams in Botswana.
“The plan is to go to BAL, but we have to conquer all the teams in Botswana, including the South teams,” he said. “The next step is to take the next championship this year.”
For Sarefo, achieving that goal will depend as much on mentality and preparation as it does on talent.
“To do that, it all has to do with training, the mentality of every player. It all has to do with teamwork,” he said.
After a 104 point statement in Serowe, Delta Spirit have made it clear that they intend to remain a force at the top of Botswana basketball with their sights now firmly set on the next championship where they will face Champions in The BBA South League and, ultimately, a place on the continental stage.
