Coster Fx On Laughter!

Date:

Recently, The Weekender sat down for laughter filled interview with local comedic Tik Tok sensation, Coster Fx Tshoganyetso, as he shared his journey bringing smiles to life during the COVID pandemic to his rise on social media.

“It was a tough, very weird & heavy time for everyone, and there was a lot of anxiety and boredom floating around. Making funny videos started almost as a way to survive boredom,” he stated.

When the COVID-19 lockdown hit, many people struggled with boredom, anxiety, and uncertainty. For Botswana’s viral sensation Coster Fx, it became the unlikely birthplace of a creative revolution.

What began as a way to pass time evolved into a movement. “I wanted to make something that could make them laugh or just feel a little lighter. It wasn’t about being perfect; it was just about putting out some joy when everything felt uncertain. It felt like the world needed a laugh.”

While he always had a natural instinct for humor, the technical side of comedy, timing, editing, and delivery, was something he developed through trial and error.

“That all came with time and watching a lot of Movies,” he admitted.

Coster Fx’s content isn’t just comedy, its culture, chaos, and craft combined. His love for martial arts also adds to his comic vibes.

When asked how he pulls off such slick editing, Coster Fx didn’t hesitate: “My secret weapon on how I do my editing. it’s simple and it’s all about rhythm, sound design, impact enhancements, choreography & story integration.”

That seamless style has earned him a loyal fanbase and a boost from platforms like TikTok. “TikTok has been a game changer, its algorithm pushes your content to people who don’t follow you and learns what kind of viewers love your content, which means even one great video can go viral.”

If you’ve heard of Bokhete style, you can thank Coster Fx. It’s a genre he created from scratch, combining humor, hip hop, and the distinct local flavor originating from Maun.

For locals, his humour blends local dialect and accent that has brought much needed storytelling to the comedic art form, bringing out characteristics of wrestling icons and Marock ‘Rock n Roller’ personalities to the forefront, authentically representing his hometown.

“It’s the challenge and creativity in simplifying hip hop, blending it seamlessly with our homegrown accent and authentic sound. It’s the sound of laughing through the pain and celebrating the small wins.”

One of his most successful videos to date, titled Insecurity, was released on his birthday, April 4, 2025. “It resonated deeply, hitting half a million views in just three days. It wasn’t just content—it was a mirror to the street, and it hit people because it was real, funny at the same time talking about how insecure people are.”

Coster has also worked with major institutions like the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC), hospitals, and safari lodges to deliver comedy ads that inform without diluting the message.

He begins by understanding the core message, then finds the funny truth hidden in the serious topic. From there, he localizes the language and style, keeps the organization’s dignity intact, and uses repetition and his signature style to make the message stick. From acting and editing to rapping and producing, Coster Fx wears many hats and wears them well.
