In an effort to promote and make archery accessible to all, Maun based Lynx Archery Club is currently recruiting anyone interested to join the sport.
The club is open to everyone, regardless of gender and welcomes children, youth, and adults, typically from around eight years and above, depending on safety and equipment suitability.
Lynx Archery Club was established in 2022 by Dendo Kaisara and Kesego Maphane. With his extensive experience in the sport, Kaisara has been an active coach and instructor for three years now. The club’s archery range is located at Maun BMC Sports Club which is a safe and controlled environment suitable for both beginners and experienced archers.
In an interview, Lynx Archery Club Founder and Head coach, Dendo Kaisara said the objective of their club is to promote archery as a recreational and competitive sport.
He stated that they intend to develop local talent from grassroots to elite level, and to provide safe, professional training and coaching. Through the sport, Kaisara said that their aim is to encourage discipline, focus, sportsmanship, and to represent Botswana in regional and international competitions.
“Furthermore, the program has a strong impact on both education and life skills, especially for children. Archery teaches focus, self-control, discipline, and patience skills that translate directly to success in the classroom and everyday life,” he said.
He noted that archery is also a uniquely inclusive sport, welcoming athletes and non-athletes, boys and girls, and even those physically challenged on the same platform. Kaisara pointed that for adults, archery has proven to offers important health benefits, including improved hand-eye coordination, core strength, posture, and mental focus. He further highlighted that they intend to promote inclusivity and broad participation.
According to him, the club offers structured training sessions for beginners, intermediate, and advanced archers. He added that these sessions focus on basic techniques, safety, equipment handling, and competitive skills by certified instructors, making it easy for newcomers to learn and grow in the sport.
“Archery is a sport that builds focus, discipline, and consistency over time. You don’t need prior experience just commitment, willingness to learn, and respect for safety guidelines,” he said.
Kaisara has expressed that archery in Botswana is steadily growing, while it is still a developing sport, interest is increasing, especially among youth and schools. He stated that with more clubs, competitions, and awareness, archery is gradually gaining traction and recognition nationally.
Kaisara has encouraged those outside Maun who like to join the sport, to register at other clubs in Gaborone and Lobatse.
