Chobe Holdings, Innovation Kgotla Celebrate STEM Excellence

Date:

Chobe Holdings Limited and Innovation Kgotla recently held a special assembly event at Letsholathebe Memorial School to honour 48 students from their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) club by recognising their accomplishments with certificates and medals. The event marked the end of a successful year filled with dedication, innovation, and creativity in the STEM fields.

The highlight of the event was a speech by Victoria Ridge, the Principal Education Officer, North West Region, who emphasised the importance of fostering interest in STEM from an early age.

“This club and these students are a testament to what we can invest in our children within the scope of STEM. It starts here, with clubs like this, which are fundamental in sparking curiosity, especially in young girls. We need to inspire more girls to pursue careers in science, a field still dominated by men. We need more engineers, doctors, and tech entrepreneurs to build our nation and contribute to global innovations,” Ridge said.

Out of the 48 club members, nine students were singled out for their exceptional performance during the club’s first year. These standout members, including Shathani Mosarwe, Sharon Ntema, and Thoriso Mogaladi, demonstrated a remarkable ability to innovate and create during their tasks. The day also featured educational drama performances and a choral song by the school’s drama club, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

Peter Fella, co-founder of Innovation Kgotla, expressed pride in the club’s mission to inspire future innovators. “This club is here to ignite the minds curious enough to want to bring change through innovation. The time is now to plant the seeds for the leaders of tomorrow, and I’m grateful to be part of that journey,” Fella said.

The Innovation Kgotla STEM Club is active in four schools adopted by Chobe Holdings Ltd., including Letsholathebe Primary, Mathiba Primary, Sedie Junior Secondary School, and Tsodilo Junior Secondary School. Through hands-on projects, collaborative learning, and real-world applications, the club aims to inspire the next generation of problem solvers and innovators.

As the awards were handed out, students watched with a sense of curiosity and admiration, inspired to one day join the ranks of their peers being recognized for their achievements. One student, in particular, stood out—capturing the essence of the day—a young child, filled with hope and excitement, ready to take their first steps toward becoming the next scientist, engineer, or doctor.
