- Group adopts 4 schools in Maun
Botswana Stock Exchange listed Chobe Holdings has made an unprecedented Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) gesture in the education sector by adopting 4 schools in Maun. The group’s management, last week signed memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with representatives from Tsodilo and Sedie Junior Secondary Schools, alongside Letsholathebe and Mathiba Primary Schools.
In the main, the signing was to formalise relationship that has existed for years since the adopt a school initiative came into being where the company assisted the schools in different ways to enhance academic performance.
Adopt – a – school is a government initiative which encourages the participation of private and public stakeholders in the delivery of quality education. In his remarks during the signing ceremony, Chobe Holding Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Gibson said the company has committed itself to the schools of Maun and the community it operates to make a difference.
“We understand that where we really make a difference is with young people. We are deeply rooted in this community and you have all worked with us for a number of years, and we hope for deeper and deeper linkage going forward,” Gibson said.
Highlighting the objectives of the initiative, group Managing Director Lempheditse Odumetse highlighted the company took the decision to adopt the four schools, with the firm believe that education is the cornerstone of any society, and its believe in giving back to the community and investing in the future.
“Through this partnership, we aim to create a positive and sustainable impact on the lives of the students, teachers and the entire school community. We understand that education goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. It is about nurturing young talents, fostering creativity and proving opportunities for growth,” Odumetse said.
He further said the signing marked the beginning of an exciting journey of possibilities that lie ahead.
Representing the primary schools, Ntsholetsang Tebelelo a teacher at Mathiba Primary school appreciated the assistance Chobe Holdings has been according the school over the years. He said major among the donations to the school was a porta cabin block which houses two classrooms for the learners.
“We also appreciate the photo copying machine they have bought the school, which they continue to maintain and continue supplying cartridges,” he said.
Onalethata Lekalandi from Tsodilo JSS, and representing junior secondary schools also appreciated Chobe Holdings overwhelming support over the years, adding that it paints a bright academic future for the leaners.
Part of this support, she said has been with prize giving ceremony as well as taking best performing and needy students into the Makgadikgadi National Park, and hosting them at Leroo La Tau lodge which is of great motivation.
She said the company has made a great stride in participating in moulding the future of the country, by investing in education.
