Busy Entertainment Space For Maun These Holidays!

Date:

The tourist capital is gearing up for a thrilling Independence weekend as a series of high-profile events promise to bring together music, culture, and entertainment from September 27 to 30. From star-studded concerts to grand restaurant openings, organisers have assured patrons of both world-class entertainment and tight security.

The weekend kicks off with Groove 10 Maun Edition in Lunar Gardens hosted by Groove Station, featuring an electric lineup headlined by Lekompo, “Di Choppa” hitmaker Shandesh, Thato Tladi, and “Umaqondana” hitmaker DJ KSB.

Shenton Kgotso Tautona, a representative of Groove Station-Hangover Sessions, stressed that preparations are well underway: “Everything is going well. In terms of security, we have tightened up the security. We have more than 50 personnel on the ground inside and an extra 50 outside, plus undercover operatives and police support. We can guarantee the customers of a good safe event.”

He further assured smooth access to the venue, saying measures are in place to control traffic, ensure ample parking, and minimise long queues at entry points.

The celebrations continue with the grand opening of Capello Maun, promising to showcase a unique culinary and cultural experience. Co-Manager Ofentse Masego highlighted their dedication to safety and hospitality: “We’ve hired 24 security guards covering VIP, standard areas, parking, and even the toilets. Security will be top-notch,” he said.

Masego described Capello as more than a restaurant: “Capello is a culture. We’re all about food, people, passion, and ambience. There’s no place like Capello in Maun, and we look forward to giving patrons a taste of that culture this Independence weekend.”

While on Independence Day lead to the Power Station for the highly anticipated Back 2 The Old Days carnival, part of the Chobe Carnival & Kemateré Activation. Starting at 12 noon and ending at 6am, the festival will blend old-school classics with contemporary hits.

The star lineup includes Vee Mampeezy, Juu Matere, Dalom Kids, DJ The Guy, Nature BW, Machesa, Rokara, DJ Pippin, DJ Psco, Mdu the Fire Drummer, DJ Siya, and The Choreographers. Tickets are priced at P150 in advance and P200 at the gate, with alcohol, food, and refreshments available. Cooler boxes are free before 5pm and P50 thereafter.

With such a diverse lineup, Maun Stadium is expected to be packed as fans from across the country gather for what could be the year’s biggest entertainment highlight.

Bilaterally, on Independence Day the festivities close with Amberfields Promotions’ Dira.Gola.Tshela Music Festival, a unique event in partnership with beMobile that bridges the gap between corporates and creatives. The festival will feature music giants Franco, Lioness Ratang, Amantle Brown, and Stiger Sola, among others.

In an unusual twist, tickets aren’t bought but redeemed: patrons deposit P100 (General) or P1000 (VIP) into their Smega accounts, which remain theirs to spend on electricity, airtime, swiping, or cashing out. Proof of deposit can be presented at the Dira.Gola.Tshela Roadshow or BTC shops to claim tickets.

Organisers say the festival aims to redefine event financing while strengthening corporate partnerships in the creative industry.

With back-to-back events featuring Botswana’s finest artists, top-tier security, and unique experiences, Maun is positioning itself as the heartbeat of Independence celebrations this year. From live music and carnival fever to culinary culture and innovative festival formats, revellers can expect a weekend filled with rhythm, safety, and unforgettable memories.
