Burglars Make Away With 32 Phones

  • Police Seek Public Assistance

Maun police are investigating a major break-in that occurred between the night of January 18 and 19, where 32 mobile phones valued at approximately P67,200 were stolen.

Assistant Superintendent Michel Bakae of the Maun police revealed in interview that the incident took place at a local property and is believed to have involved at least two individuals. The stolen phones included 14 Samsung models, 9 Redmi models, 7 additional Redmi phones, 1 Cazon, and 1 Huawei. Notably, the culprits left behind the chargers, taking only the handsets.

“No suspects have been identified yet,” said Assistant Superintendent Bakae, appealing to the public for assistance in the investigation. He urged residents to report any suspicious activity or cases where new phones fitting the description of the stolen devices are being sold without chargers.

The police are also advising community members to be vigilant and report any information that could help apprehend the suspects.

In a separate incident, Maun police are investigating the death of a 70-year-old man from Disaneng, whose lifeless body was discovered in his home on Monday.

Assistant Superintendent Bakae stated that the man, who had last been seen alive on Friday evening when he parted ways with his coworkers, failed to report to work on Monday. Concerned coworkers visited his residence, where they found him lying motionless on his bed.

The police were immediately notified and transported the man to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

An autopsy is currently being conducted to determine the cause of death. While no foul play has been confirmed, Assistant Superintendent Bakae emphasized the importance of regularly checking on elderly individuals, especially those living alone.

“Elders at that age are often susceptible to health conditions that can be addressed if caught early. It is crucial for families or caretakers to ensure their well-being through regular visits or monitoring,” he said.

The police continue to investigate both cases and have urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperative in providing any information that may aid their efforts. Anyone with information related to either incident is encouraged to contact the Maun Police Station.
