“Brush & Sup” Blends Art And Entrepreneurship

Date:

The inaugural Brush & Sup event, hosted this past Saturday by Sammy T Creations Hub at Cresta Maun, delivered an enriching fusion of art, entrepreneurship and youth empowerment—drawing creatives, business minds, and young audiences into a lively space of learning, creativity, and community engagement.

Held under the theme “Paint for a Reason,” the event featured a mix of artistic showcases, live painting, motivational storytelling and a robust panel discussion exploring the creative economy. The initiative also carried a strong social responsibility component, with part of the proceeds donated to Lorato House, a shelter supporting vulnerable and abandoned children through the Love Botswana organization.

One of the event’s highlights was an intimate painting session, where every attendee received a canvas and participated in guided creative expression. The session closed the tone for the afternoon, encouraging collaboration, relaxation and a shared appreciation of local artistry. Artists exhibiting their work included Rob Mor, Redecor Crafts, Tshepo Lister and Tlhalefang R-Tistry, among others.

But the heart of the programme was the panel discussion an unscripted, lively engagement examining the viability of creative careers in Botswana, the dynamics of content creation, and the importance of entrepreneurship in an evolving economy. The panel featured TikTok content creator Sibusiso Kgosikhumo, widely known for Modise and I; former Miss Botswana 2018 Moitshepi Elias; business specialist Keolebogile Keabetswe; and event host and poet Anthxny, who moderated the session.

Kgosikhumo shared candid insights into building a digital footprint capable of generating income, describing his own journey balancing content creation with his profession as an optometrist. “You can get on TikTok for vibes, and that’s okay,” he said, adding that creators must understand their audience and potential brand partners. “Brands see us as billboards. The key is knowing your market—who is paying your bills—and shaping content that appeals to them.”

He highlighted Botswana’s current challenges regarding digital monetization, noting that although features like content payouts are still limited locally, creators continue to find ways to innovate, collaborate with brands and remain resilient. “Business is frustrating everywhere,” he said. “But as creators and entrepreneurs, the task is to adapt, circumvent challenges, and position ourselves for opportunities.”

Fellow panellist Keolebogile Keabetswe offered practical insights on entrepreneurship, sharing lessons from running her spice brand Ngamie Spices and other ventures. She emphasized research, collaboration, financial discipline and leveraging opportunities provided by local and international programmes. “Collaborate widely,” she said. “Collaboration is the new innovation.”

Meanwhile, Moitshepi Elias spoke on authenticity, self-belief and navigating creative careers with intention and strategy, reminding young people that opportunities expand when one is willing to learn, grow and remain adaptable.

Sammy Tshoswane, Director of Sammy T Creations Hub, said the event aimed to “bring out the art market in Maun” while creating a platform for discussion, networking, and social impact.

Ultimately the session brought an event that brought together social media personalities and

The event was supported by Cresta Maun, Planet Culture Café, The Body Mechanic Spa and Pula Nation.
