As part of the preparations for the Rugby Africa promotion/relegation matches slated for Morocco in November 2024, Botswana’s national rugby team ‘the vultures’ will lock horns in an international friendly match against Lesotho tomorrow at the Jwaneng Rugby Stadium starting from1600hrs.
Botswana Rugby Union secretary general Osi Kopano told Times Sport that the match will offer a valuable opportunity for the vultures to further ready their squad for Morocco competitions.
Kopano stated that their intention is to be amongst the top eight African rugby teams so that that they can also have an opportunity to qualify for the Rugby World Cup.
He noted that as part of their preparations the team has been in training camp since the end of the National Rugby League in August. He added that they have also recently played another friendly match in South Africa.
According to him, before their friendly match against Lesotho, there will be a thrilling curtain-raiser match between Hukuntsi and Jwaneng Re Ba Bona Ha centres, which will take place from 1100hrs until 1400hrs still at the Jwaneng Rugby Stadium.
Kopano stated that the match will showcase some of the brightest young talents from their grassroots rugby programs, providing an opportunity for emerging players to display their skills on a national stage.
He noted that since they established different centres across the country there has been a lot of interest from children in the sport therefore there is a need to continue uplifting their talent. Kopano has encouraged the fans to come in large numbers to support both matches and enjoy a day filled with exciting rugby action.
“We invite all rugby lovers and the broader sporting community to attend and be part of this historic occasion,” he said.
Still in Jwaneng, the Botswana Darts Association (BODA) will host a competition dubbed Diamond Darts Spectacle from the 28th-29th October 2024 at Jwaneng Darts Arena.
