Botswana beach volleyball men and ladies’ teams have qualified for the African Games, scheduled for the 8th-23rd March 2024 in Ghana.
The two teams qualified after finishing position three and two respectively at the Zone 6 Beach Volleyball Tournament 4th leg that was held from the 25th -26th January 2024 in Gaborone.
Team Botswana was represented by four (4) men- Trevor Manduwa, Mosiiwa Baleofi, Sekao Jack and George Chiswaniso and four (4) ladies’ teams- Ngirl Wright, Wabongwa Boima Jestinah Tumagole and Tsebo Marape.
The men’s team that qualifies consist of Jack and Chiswaniso while for the ladies, only Wright and Boima qualified.
Jack and Chiswaniso’s team finished in position three and their opponents from Mozambique took position one while South African team took position two. From the ladies’ team, Wright and Boima took position two and Mozambique team took position one while Angola took position three.
Countries that participated at the tournament included South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi, Angola, Botswana and Zambia.
In an interview, Botswana Volleyball Federation Vice President Administration Ndibo Lebala said their teams did not have enough time to prepare for the games due to the fact that they were from the festive season. He stated that they recently took part in tournaments held in Maputo and Maseru, and they did not have much time to rest before taking part at the Zone 6 Beach Volleyball Tournament 4th leg. He said that they only had two weeks of training to prepare for the tournament. Despite that, Lebala noted that through the skills they managed to perform very well and their men and ladies’ teams managed to qualify. He indicated that they had two quarter finalists in both men and ladies’ teams and one of the quarter finalists was young, but was able to deliver outstanding performance while playing against some of the best teams like Mozambique.
