Botswana Ash, a leading producer of natural sodium products in the region, last year committed over P14 million to community programmes, particularly education, sports, environment and industry.
Acting Managing Director Othusitse Seakamo revealed this recently, when donating two heavy duty photocopy machines and notebooks to three Junior Secondary Schools in the Tutume region.
“In 2023 we prioritised sponsoring education, after identifying widespread printing and printing challenges in schools that were negatively affecting teaching and learning. As part of our 2025 initiative, we expanded the initiative to wo schools being Nxakato and Madawu Junior Secondary Schools. Madawu Secondary which is in Nswazwi has exhibited academic excellence and exemplary performance within our region”, highlighted Seokamo, during the donation ceremony.
“Dukwi Junior Secondary School we are donating notebooks to Form One and Two students following a shortage of experienced by the school. The total value of the printing and photocopying machines and the notebooks amounts to over P760 000.00.”
Seokamo said the donation is to support their strategic alliance to enhance education in Tutume region. Already Batash’s Maths and Science initiative is recognising students who score 80 percent and above at all school levels.
“Thus, encouraging careers in STEM, an initiative which has been going on for a number of years and is continuing. Recently we partnered with Nxakato Secondary school and Tutume education office to create a joint strategy to boost academic performance in schools in our region. We endorse the region’s target of exceeding 80 percent for primary schools and recommend that a comparable standard be established for Junior and Senior schools’ levels”, said Botash Acting Managing Director.
Seokamo urged Nxakato junior Secondary and other institutions in the region to pull up their socks and attain the 80 percent target. He said it is unacceptable for schools to score below 50 percent.
“We are not going to be watching we are going to participate in this change. In alignment of this initiative, we have engaged additional stakeholders such as Kopano mine to identify collaborative opportunities”, assured Botash acting Managing Director.
