As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) hosted the Back-to-School Boxing Tournament on January 31st in Gaborone in an effort to give back to society through the donation of educational material to schools.

The tournament which also provided competitive preparations for boxers at the start of the season attracted a total of 80 boxers, representing all 17 BoBA affiliate clubs, and ensuring nationwide representation.

According to BoBA, Public Relations Officer Kabelo Seleka through the tournament, the association has donated the educational stationery to schools in Gaborone Bonnington South Constituency, as part of BoBA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, supported by its partners.

He stated that the tournament featured U17, U19, and elite categories for both men and women, giving boxers across all development levels the chance to compete.

Delivering his remarks during the launch of the tournament, BoBA President Dirang Thipe said the association is currently in a phase of renewal and growth.

He noted that the association has taken a deliberate step to review its past performance and develop a new strategic direction that is practical, inclusive, and aligned with national and international standards. Thipe added that this process is about strengthening governance, improving accountability, and ensuring that their structures truly serve the boxer.

“Our focus remains clear: development through competition. Initiatives such as this one, Back to School Tournament, Youth Championships, and the planned Botswana Boxing League are designed to provide consistent competition, structured pathways, and greater exposure for our athletes,” he said.

He said that at continental level, the formation of African Boxing presents new opportunities for Botswana, strengthens governance and opens clearer pathways for boxers, coaches, and officials to compete and grow beyond the borders.

“Athlete welfare is central to everything we do. Through safeguarding measures, our Medical and Anti-Doping structures, and mentorship-focused coaching, we continue to promote clean sport, mental wellness, and holistic athlete development,” he said.

Thipe highlighted that BoBA remains committed to transparency, collaboration, and the long-term growth of boxing in Botswana.
