Botswana Insurance Company (BIC) has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the growth and protection of businesses and communities in Maun with the official opening of its new branch in Newtown.
Delivering the keynote address, BIC Group Chief Executive Officer Newton Jazire described the development as more than just an expansion of office space; it is a strategic step aimed at strengthening service delivery in one of Botswana’s most dynamic regions.
He noted that Maun, widely recognised as the gateway to the Okavango Delta, is a critical hub of economic activity driven by tourism, agriculture, logistics, and small business development. Jazire stated that the town’s continued growth underscores the need for strong institutions that support and safeguard livelihoods.
“Today is not simply about opening a new office. It is about reaffirming our commitment to the people and businesses of this region,” he said. Jazire further noted that insurance remains a key pillar of economic resilience, enabling individuals and businesses to recover from unforeseen losses and continue building prosperity.
“Over the years, BIC has undergone significant transformation, strengthening governance, improving operational efficiency, and investing in its workforce. These efforts have contributed to strong growth, including regaining its position as Botswana’s leading short-term insurer in 2020 and achieving substantial increases in premium income,” he added.
Batawana Senior Chief Representative, Kgosi Oleyo Ledimo, welcomed the new branch, describing it as a positive development for the region. He encouraged the BIC team to remain dedicated and continue striving for excellence, noting that their presence in Maun would play a vital role in supporting local communities. He further urged the company to build on its momentum, deepen its engagement with the public, and contribute meaningfully to the area’s economic and social development.
Also speaking at the event, BIC Chief Business Development and Bancassurance Officer Mosimanegape Lekopanye said the new branch represents more than just a physical structure. “This branch is more than a physical space; it is a service hub,” he said.
Lekopanye emphasised that the company’s focus is on being accessible and responsive to clients, particularly during critical moments. “Our commitment is to be present when claims arise and when support is needed most. Your loyalty motivates us to raise the standard even higher,” he said.
He further reminded the public of the fundamental role of insurance in economic development. “Insurance is about protection. Protection builds confidence, and confidence builds economies. As Maun grows, BIC is proud to grow alongside it,” he added.
The new branch is expected to bring services closer to clients, improve turnaround times, and strengthen partnerships with the key sectors driving the region’s economy.
