The Botswana Football League (BFL) is hopeful that the 2023/24 season which is anticipated to commence next month will have a title sponsor.
BFL as according to its football operations-manager Patrick Motsepe has already engaged three big companies know to this publication for potential sponsorship deal of the new season that may resume on September 16th, 2023, should plans go accordingly.
Motsepe told Times Sport that the three potential investors are not new to the football cycles and they remain hopeful that the latter will grab the opportunity to return to football hence they (BFL) are optimistic of getting a positive response from them.
Motsepe revealed that the BFL board this past Wednesday had a meeting in which one of the agenda was sponsorship update from these potential sponsors. Based on the engagements Motsepe said it is promising that they will reach a positive agreement before the deadline.
“We had positive negotiations with these companies regarding the sponsorship and we are hopeful that we will have a sponsor on board before the start of the season or after the league had resumed. Our fingers are crossed that we will have a sponsor this season,” he said.
He indicated that the three big companies will be revealed to the public after all negotiations are done. Meanwhile Motsepe has explained that sponsorships are hard to get nowadays especially that companies are recovery from covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the sponsorship negotiations for the First Division League (FDL) are ongoing as according to the Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo. The CEO revealed that they are still negotiating with their previous sponsor, Debswana for possible extension of their agreement.
“We are hopeful for renewal of the sponsorship for our lower division league even though we have other potential sponsors that we have approached. But we are positive that Debswana will come on board again as our relationship with them is very much good,” he said. In the 2022/23 season, Debswana Diamond Company sponsored the first division league to a tune of P3.9 million which commenced in October 2022 and ended in July 2023. Meanwhile the lower division is expected to commence a week after BFL one has begun.
