Desperate to win the next general elections, the BDP North West Region has resorted to roping in party veterans who have since deserted it for guidance. The move, dubbed ‘Tsosolotso’ operation in which they engage party veterans within the region for guidance and membership reaffirmation, saw regional Chairperson, Reaboka Mbulawa hosting a luncheon at Crocodile Camp Safari & Spa for the veterans.
The operation seeks to bring restoration within the region, rebuild confidence and affirm membership with the help of the party veterans.
Speaking at the event, Mbulawa reminded the veterans about one of the BDP veterans Daniel Kwelegobe who once encouraged the party to go back to the cross-roads for introspection.
Mbulawa said time for the BDP in the North West to introspect is now, noting that operation tsosoloso is the solution for the party to reclaim all the NW constituencies in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Mbulawa indicated that when he resumed the regional office, the operation was one of the pillars that he believes would help him bring together the lost elders of the party and the youth for the betterment of the party and its success in the future. Furthermore, he indicated that this will help them in terms of knowledge sharing.
“After serious introspection, operation tsosoloso helped us to decide on retracing our steps back to look for the party veterans in all the constituencies because we have lost the way,” he said.
Mbulawa said the main objective of the lunch was to listen to the veterans and learn from them appreciating those who graced the event. He further promised the party veterans that he will invite them for a meeting with President Mokgweetsi Masisi because it is important for rebuilding the region.
One of the veterans, Daisy Wright appreciated the operation, encouraging the regional leadership to continue engaging with them going forward to build the party. She lamented that party in-fights are gradually destroying the BDP and the democratic practice which was formed in 1962, by the then Bechuanaland Democratic Party.
Another elder, Kereng Mogalakwe also lamented that BDP is gradually losing its grip and touch in the political podium especially in Ngamiland where the party lost all the constituencies to the opposition in the 2019 general elections.
She pleaded with the young blood of the party to always be loyal to the party and serve it with honesty because at the end of the day, it is the party that suffers. She indicated that in this era, most of the things that destroy the party include jealousy within its structures.
The eldest in the team, Tiego Sankhawa stated that the initiative has given him hope that BDP will win all the constituencies in Ngamiland. He believes that the operation will go a long way into reviving BDP, as he wished for other regions to emulate the operation.
