- Local Fashion and Music Take Center Stage with Simply Different Launch and Local Ka Monate Fest Activation
The All White Lot Party held in Maun recently served as an activation t for the official launch of the Simply Different clothing line locally in December, creating a vibrant atmosphere in anticipation.
The event featured a lineup of local DJs, including Dj Chuck and Chiczzy88, who provided a backdrop of music while guests enjoyed a variety of dishes from Kwa Ga Ncinci Restaurant.
Badisa Nkobela, founder of Simply Different Clothing Brand, explained the vision behind the activation, stating “we wanted to create an environment where our guests could enjoy good music and experience our brand ahead of the official launch.”
With an all-white theme, the party created a relaxed yet energetic space where attendees mingled freely while enjoying the music. The highlight of the event was a guest appearance by Ammo Ski Mask, a member of Botswana’s well-known hip hop group Faded Gang, who brought even more excitement to the crowd.
“Simply Different is a hip hop brand born from a music group collaboration. When we went our separate ways, I continued with the brand because it’s bigger than me,” Nkobela shared the origins of the Simply Different brand.
The main event, scheduled for December 24th promises to deliver a fusion of fashion, music, and cuisine with a fashion show headlined by Simply Different, showcasing high-quality, minimalist designs reminiscent of iconic brands like Nike.
The event will feature performances from local hip hop artists, with a secret international act also expected. Nkobela teased, “I cannot reveal too much, but stay tuned to our social media for an announcement in November. I know people will love what that which is coming.”
The All White Lot Party symbolised a fresh start, as Nkobela described: “The white theme represented wiping the slate clean for a new chapter—one that Simply Different is ready to write.” He concluded by emphasising the brand’s message: “Simply Different is about individuality and striving for the best version of yourself. It’s more than fashion; it’s a lifestyle.”
On Independence Day, Local Ka Monate hosted its own activation event, drawing over 300 attendees to a festive celebration that set the stage for its main event on December 28th. The crowd was treated to an all-local lineup of performers, including DJ La Timmy, DJ Gouveia, and Lioness Ratang.
Lesego Mabote, co-organizer of the event, shared their goals: “This activation was a preview of what we have in store for our main event at the end of the year. We are thrilled by the turnout and the excitement it has generated.”
The event reached its peak when DJ La Timmy performed his hit song “Skitikiti,” electrifying the crowd with his well-known Kwasa rhythm. The audience could not contain its excitement, dancing throughout the performance.
Mabote emphasised the importance of supporting local talent, stating, “Our lineup is strictly local, and we are proud to showcase our homegrown artists. The support from people of all backgrounds has been overwhelming.”
Reflecting on last year’s inaugural event, Mabote added, “The attendance exceeded our expectations, and we managed to deliver a memorable experience. This year, we promise an even bigger and better event with a stellar lineup that we’re keeping under wraps for now.”
As the night came to an end, it was clear that the activation had successfully built anticipation for the main event, leaving attendees eager to see what Local Ka Monate has in store.
