ABSA Engages Tati Nickel Mine Investors

Date:

In anticipation of the re-opening of Tati Nickel mine, Absa Bank Botswana is already making in-roads with the potential investors of the mine.

Absa Bank Botswana Managing Director Keabetswe Pheko-Moshangane recently disclosed this during the official opening of the bank’s branch at Galo Mall in Francistown.

“We have to affirm the vibrancy we see in this City, which needs a holistic strategy. Not only of banking individual customers but to rally through the bigger strategy. We hope in time, the dream of seeing Tati Nickel mine opening again will be a reality”, said Moshangane.

“I spent the whole day at the mine engaging with the potential investors to see how as a bank we can rally behind them. Most importantly to support you as a community that has been behind Absa bank for so long. We are deliberate where we play as a bank”, continued Absa Bank Botswana managing director.

She said it is the bank’s deliberate intention and strategy to contribute to local initiatives and collaborations with key stakeholders in the second city. This as Francistown remains a vibrant economic centre for the Northern region.

“When the mine re-opens I would like to see this city booming from a Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) perspective.   And understanding that they have access to financing in a non- traditional way”, said Moshangane.

She said SMMEs must tender and provide solutions to large corporates in a competitive manner and more importantly in a non-traditional manner too.

“We have launched most of our solutions that speak to the evolving needs of our customers. Solutions for women owned businesses, giving them several benefits they can enjoy. We have sharpened our strategy to supporting the SMME. Unsecured loans of up to P200 000 for them to take as working capital, when they start their businesses”, continued the financial institution’s chief executive.

Absa has also launched a mobile app targeting venders, taxi operators and tuck shop owners to accept payment from Absa Bank clients.

“Mobitap enables vendors, taxi men and small business operators to build a track record in terms of their financial position.  And also, to enhance access to capital as their businesses grow”, pointed out Moshangane.

In terms of future outlook, Absa Bank promises to continue to give steadfast support to its clients during their financial journey, despite the challenges and opportunities they face.
